About:

Your stories have a healing purpose, and by embracing them, you’ll connect with the world and your true self.

I'm Lisa Weinert, the author and founder of Narrative Healing, a somatic and mindfulness-based writing program. I care deeply about supporting writers, and the inherent therapeutic aspects of writing to heal from grief and trauma. I have worked with hundreds of authors as an editor, publicist and writing coach. My career trajectory includes over a decade of experience at Random House, Inc., and faculty positions at Wesleyan University and Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. I am also a certified yoga teacher with specialties in trauma-informed, restorative, and therapeutic yoga.  I’m currently pursuing an MSW degree at Fordham University.

I have dedicated my life’s work to the well-being of writers, because I have witnessed first hand countless times how storytelling transforms lives and the healing ripples across communities. I  believe that by connecting within and releasing our stories to trustworthy communities -  we can live full, wholehearted, and joyful lives, and help and inspire others along the way. I also believe our tender stories deserve compassion and care. I’m committed to offering a trauma-informed approach to writing and sharing work.

My work is based on the premise that our stories live in our bodies, and instead of beginning with writing on the page, I begin with awareness in the body.  Many of us have healing stories trapped within us—hidden, frozen, or quiet. Our stories, like us, are part of our nervous system. When we're stressed or caught in a fight-or-flight response, our stories get caught up too and we can miss out on important, life affirming, life saving and also beautiful stories.

Hundreds of studies have shown that a writing practice can offer deep, lasting and meaningful impact on your overall health and well being. In Narrative Healing, through somatic movement and mindfulness practices, I offer another layer of support and safety. As you learn to relax the body, you may access the stories that need to be told and cultivate a curiosity and openness to being surprised by a new creative direction. Writing becomes not only a healing practice but also a way to seek joy, connection, and belonging. In working with writers, I have seen amazing mental health and creative breakthroughs with this method.

Listening within and expressing your story is meaningful service in this world - you cannot truly listen to others until you have listened to yourself. Once you know your story, you become a healing and listening force for those around you. I approach writing like a mindfulness practice, and like all spiritual practices, it requires dedication, study, and community.

Thank you for being a part of this community. I’m inspired to explore the healing power of storytelling together.

Lisa
